Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc

You may well be staying on a stunning beach at your resort but with so many unexplored beaches, Phu Quoc is crying out for some sand based discovery!
Phu Quoc not only has some of the best beaches in Vietnam but is the only place geographically that faces directly west giving you magnificent sunset views.
Of course, some beaches are a little harder to get to than others, but all of the beaches in Phu Quoc are PUBLIC and worth visiting.
Whether for perfect warm clear water for swimming and snorkeling, small local seafood or BBQ joints, or just the simple pleasures of a deserted white sand beach.
In the southeast corner of the island, you will find Bai Sao and Bai Kem two of the most beautiful beaches on the Island and certainly worth a visit even if it's only for a lunch!

Important Tip:
Leave your valuables safely at your hotel and if you’re traveling on your own, it’s advisable to let someone at your hotel know where you’re going. Also handy to keep the hotel's business card with you to easily find your way back or show it to a taxi driver, they will understand clearly with just a flash of that card!

1. Long Beach (Bãi Trường)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
Long Beach is the only beach in Vietnam where you can see a direct westward sunset!
If you are looking for that perfect sunset cocktail, just about anywhere along the main part of Long Beach is a great place to perch yourself with the camera at the ready!
Generally, the better beaches are to be found on the West coast where Long Beach dominates the scene, stretching for over 20 km and though it’s very developed in some parts, you can still find a deserted patch here and there.
As the name suggests, this is the longest beach and is situated on the west side of the island where most
of the Hotels, Resorts, Restaurants & Bars are located.

Pros: Near lots of Hotels, Restaurants, and Bars | Close to the night market & Duong Dong town | Clean & Safe | Most popular amongst travelers | Spectacular sunsets.
Cons: Some beaches are in front of Hotels and Resorts (you might get pushed off by hotel security!) | Sand is golden instead of white | It can get very crowded during the tourist season | Parts of the beach that are not in front of hotels are unkempt and at times you may find rubbish.

2. Sao Beach (Bãi Sao)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
Go to Sao beach where there is a beautiful white sand beach with lots of local restaurants to choose from, it can get busy with groups and jetskis in places so best find a peaceful spot particularly at the northern end of the beach.
Located in the southeast corner of the island is Phu Quoc’s most beautiful beach and probably one of the better beaches in Vietnam!
Now it's at the crossroads of massive resort development, the beach in recent times has become not very well managed however at either end of the beach is still relatively peaceful and worth a visit.

Pros: Gorgeous white sand beach | Beach activities for rent
Cons: Long drive from Duong Dong Town | Not many hotels nearby to stay at | Can get crowded during the tourist season

3. Ong Lang Beach (Bãi Ông Lang)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
A beautiful long stretch of beach, only 6km from Duong Dong Town , protected from the currents and waves at one end by a rocky point and is a great beach to visit.
In recent times, this area has boomed and you will find many resorts both on or near the beach depending on your budget and at night the main road is bustling with local bars & restaurants.
If you just wanted to access the beach, you can try the road before the main turn off to Ong Lang and head to the end where there is a small local café on one side and the beautiful Dinh Ba Temple on the other.

Pros: Not as crowded as Long Beach | Spectacular sunsets Small bars and restaurants nearby.
Cons: Can get crowded with locals that don't clean up after themselves!

4. Khem Beach (Bãi Khem)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
At the next bay to the south from Sao beach, there is the equally beautiful and incredibly well maintained Khem beach!
If you feel like lapping up some of their luxuries this is certainly the right place, whether it be a day visit hanging out or really treat yourself for a stay there, you won't be disappointed.

Pros: Beautiful white sand beach | Well maintained | Secluded | Close to An Thoi
Cons: Hard to get access if you are not staying at one of the high-end resorts

5. Cua Can Beach (Bãi Cửa Cạn)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
Located on the north-west coast 10km from Duong Dong Town and close to Cua Can village lies this quiet deserted beach with a beautiful river estuary.
It is best accessed by boat, but you can find your way by small trails to the beach, you will rarely see a soul here!
If you travel further just north of Cua Can (just past Chez Carole resort) you can also find spectacular views of the beaches and estuary below, one of my own favorite spots.

Pros: Well maintained | Secluded | Not very crowded | Nice sunsets
Cons: Hard to get access if you are not staying at one of the high-end resorts

6. An Thoi Archipelago (Quần đảo An Thới)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
Just off the southern tip of Phu Quoc is the An Thoi Archipelago, a group of 14 islands brimming with amazing deserted beaches, colorful coral reefs, colonies of diverse fish species, and amazing bird-life.
Be sure you get to Fingernail Island at the southern end, with the boat anchored, swim into this gorgeous beach and you will just feel like Robinson Crusoe!
You can also enjoy a fantastic seafood lunch at May Rut Island, where the guy takes you out on a rickety polystyrene makeshift raft to a large net with all the live catch of the day, just pick out what you want and island time will determine its arrival!

Pros: Secluded. Not very crowded. Clean.
Cons: A boat or tour is needed to get there.

7. Ganh Dau Beach (Bãi Gành Dầu)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
On the top northwest side of the island lies the sleepy area of Ganh Dau and home to the magnificent Nguyễn Trung Trực Temple.
Just as you enter the village, keep to the left and follow it to the coast where you’ll find this small quiet beach with crystal clear waters to cool off in as well as great views of the southern Cambodian coastline.
You can also venture to the North coast of Ganh Dau where you will find a handful of beach-side resorts with nice views, laze the day while enjoying some great food in a very peaceful setting.

Pros: Not very crowded | Not touristy | Close to Ganh Dau market and village | Close to Vinpearl attractions | Amazing sunsets
Cons: Long drive from Duong Dong Town | Not many English-speaking Bars or Restaurants | Beach is small or nonexistent seasonally | Boats anchored in the harbor

8. Vung Bau Beach (Bãi Vũng Bầu)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
My top recommendation on the West coast for total seclusion is at the southern end of Vung Bau beach just before Fusion Resort.
Here you can find an amazing stretch of beach and won't see too many folk - unless it’s Sunday picnickers, you can reach it by car or motorbike.
It’s a bit of a trip, but if you long for a day on a deserted beach, pack some lunch and plenty of water for a great adventure where you will drown in serenity!
Located on the Northwest coast about 5km past Cua Can lies this beautiful half moon bay and beach that stretches quite a ways, this would be my top getaway choice, to be alone you need to stick to the southern end where there are no resorts.
On the northern end, a handful of resorts and a great spot for taking a lunch, swimming or snorkeling and perfect to take out a small kayak or SUP for a run.

Pros: Secluded | Not touristy | Amazing sunsets
Cons: Long drive from Duong Dong Town | Not many English-speaking Bars or Restaurants.

9. Rach Vem Beach (Bãi Rạch Vẹm)

Top 9 Beaches of Phu Quoc
Located in the north, this is not really a swimming beach as such, but well worth visiting with awesome views across the water to Southern Cambodia.
It's here that you can access a large number of local restaurants and dine in a bamboo structurse on the water to the tune of fresh seafood and hopefully ice cold beers!

Pros: Secluded. Not very crowded | Restaurant on the sea | Nice scenery for photos
Cons:Long drive from Duong Dong Town with very bumpy roads | Not many hotels to stay at
